About the event

"Marylanders Cry Freedom: Civil Rights At Home and Abroad" commemorates the 40th anniversary of Maryland’s divestment from apartheid-era South Africa. This powerful exhibit, a companion to the internationally-acclaimed "America’s Voices Against Apartheid," celebrates the spirit of resilience and innovation that has defined generations of Marylanders. Visitors will explore how countless Marylanders—from politicians and artists to students and everyday citizens—have connected in solidarity with others across the African Diaspora, influencing cultures and advancing the fight for human rights, freedom, and democracy.

Through vibrant interactive displays and authentic artifacts, the exhibit invites you to reflect on the past while inspiring action and understanding in the present.
